Happy Odd Day!

It’s 5/07/09, which means that it’s Odd Day! Did anything odd happen to you today? This only happens six times every century, so celebrate it by doing something odd!!!

I have officially perfected the art of sleeping through my phone alarm. Luckily, the big daddy alarm that I set in addition to the phone alarm woke me up 2 minutes before I was supposed to be at the gym, so I still got in a mini workout this morning.

I rushed home, showered, and had this breakfast.

Fiber One Caramel Delight cereal with a 1/2 cup of 2% milk, with 1/2 a banana.  This was a breakfast dessert, and I’m going to stop buying these delicious ingredients because as much as I love them, cereal just doesn’t fill me up in the morning.

So, at about 10 a.m. I had some yogurt.

DSCF1225

It’s Simply Well Pear Mangosteen yogurt by Kozy Shack. I lovingly refer to this sweet nectar as yogurt soup because it is incredibly runny. I don’t know if I just got a bad batch, or if it’s always like this, but I LOVE it. If you’re gross like me and like watery yogurt, this might be for you!

Work was stressful this morning as I had a lot of computer stuff to do today, and I hate technology. I prefer to stick to Microsoft Word, the Internet (preferably Safari but I deal with Explorer at work), and Outlook. Anything beyond that and I’m lost.

Then I realized that I forgot my english muffin that I was intending to have for lunch. Good thing I had a lunch break grocery trip planned! I like to do my grocery shopping at lunch because it gets it out of the way, and gives me a chance to get out of the office and walk a little. Here’s what I got today:

  • Strawberries (I’m over strawberries right now but these were huge and beautiful, so I couldn’t say no)
  • Blackberries
  • Pink Lady apple
  • Pacific Rose apple
  • 2 bananas
  • 3 roma tomatoes
  • kale (I’m trying kale chips!!)
  • frozen peaches, raspberries, and pineapple (I’m lazy and do not enjoy cutting up fruits with peels, and there weren’t any fresh raspberries)
  • Amy’s Tamale Verde (my favorite frozen meal ever)
  • Kashi Vegetable bake (first time to try this one)
  • Smart Ones Egg and Cheese Muffins (for when I oversleep : ) )
  • Boca Burger Tomato Basil or something like that. (My first veggie burger experience. I’m scurred.)
  • White Chocolate Wonderful PB (first time with this too, but I’m not scared of this one!)
  • Individually wrapped snack bags of Red Diamond Almonds
  • Kashi Honey Almond Flax Cereal
  • Dozen Omega-3 eggs
  • 4 pack of XXX SmartWater 10 (so good!)
  • yogurt soup They were out. I cried unabashedly in the dairy isle.

And this beauty

I had this for lunch, along with a very small piece of strawberry cheesecake. We were celebrating a birthday at work and I couldn’t say no! There were only about four bites to it, and I enjoyed every one.

After work I unloaded my booty (groceries) and immediately tried 1/2 a tablespoon of this goddess of nut butters.

DSCF1227 (Told you I wasn’t good with technology. I don’t know how to rotate pictures on my new computer yet. I may be using the old one for blog posting from now on. Sorry. Tips would be appreciated)

Anyways, I’ve read about this brand of peanut butter on several blogs, but never really thought too much about it. Holy ground up nuts this is good. Remember the episode of Friends where Monica and Chandler get engaged and Chandler says, “You… make me happier than I EVER thought I could be…” and his voice cracks a little? Well, I feel the same amount of raw, genuine emotion for this baby.

I moved on from my love coma and went down to the garage to pull out my suitcase for Hawaii!!! I’ll be talking a lot about this in upcoming posts, I apologize in advance. Then I got dressed really quickly and headed to my poetry reading.

Well, it wasn’t my poetry reading, it was A poetry reading. But I did read some poems at it. It was my first time doing so, and while I am definitely not a poet there was something incredibly freeing about sharing something so personal with a group of strangers. I know I would never be able to live without writing – it’s one of the few things that makes me feel truly alive. So to be able to put something I’ve written “out there” was exhilarating.

After everyone had read I had a lovely plate of free food (can’t say no to free… but I did reserve my dinner calories for this).

DSCF1228 That’s a spinach and cream cheese wrap, a mini gingerbread muffin, two Milano cookies, pineapple and a strawberry. I’d like to say that’s all I ate, BUT I definitely had a few more of the sweet goodies, another wrap, and some more pineapple. Free dinners are delicious.

I’d also like to add that although I have eaten no meat since I started blogging, I’m not a vegetarian. I probably eat meat once or twice a week, just because it’s there. I never crave it but I don’t feel educated enough to go vegetarian yet. Maybe someday though. I went way under on protein today, so I know I’m not ready yet.

On a completely unrelated note: If anyone could impart some wisdom in the form of a comment detailing how I can link to a web site in a blog post (like if I want to link to a restaurant or book I’m talking about, that would be fantastic!!)

I’m a little sad that nothing “odd” happened to me on Odd Day, but I’m feeling pretty chipper about life today. Actually, I think it’s kind of odd that nothing odd happened. So maybe I didn’t miss out.

I couldn’t stay away!

I’ve been creepily stalking away at several blogs over the past few months and I just couldn’t stay away. I think this community is just great and hope to be at least a small part of it.

I guess I’ll start by explaining the Blog Title. This will probably sound a little dramatic, so bear with me… but as I looked back over the last couple (ten) years I have sort of come to the realization that I don’t really remember the last time I was happy. I mean, there have been happy days and happy experiences, but I feel like I’ve just been living for the last decade. Living as in the bare minimum that a person has to do to be considered human. I never really realized it because I was so busy… living. Now that I’ve graduated from college I’ve been doing that whole reflective “what am I going to do with my life” thing, and I realize that the only thing I really want to do with it, is ENJOY it. This blog will hopefully allow me to take steps toward accomplishing that goal. I’ll reveal a lot more about myself along the way (probably too much…) and hopefully go from feeling a little “low” to feeling something better. I’m just going to take it one day at a time.

I don’t really know why I picked this particular day to start this… nothing really exciting happened and I have nothing cool or clever to say. But I just needed to start. Hopefully I’ll get better as time goes on. But here goes…

Today was pretty ordinary. I woke up with a Benadryl hangover and promptly skipped my 6 a.m. workout to sleep for an extra 45 minutes. I got ready super fast and made a spinach and egg white omelette with shredded cheese and half a whole wheat english muffin with simply fruit strawberry spread (not pictured because I didn’t know I would be blogging tonight). I went to work and had a very uneventful day.

Side note: I do Public Relations/Marketing/Editing for a technology firm here in OKC. It’s a great job and it pays the bills, though my ultimate dream is to be a “writer”.

For lunch a had an english muffin with 2 tablespoons smart balance peanut butter, a yogurt soup (I’ll explain this when I have my camera), and a clementine. Then I worked some more and then had a snack of one kiwi, 1/4 cup of mango chunks and a light Frigo string cheese. A little more work (mostly reading blogs) and then I went home!

Once at the casa I had this snack. day1snack
Half a S’mores Luna bar and a clem. The DVD is Yoga for Runners. I did a few hamstring stretches, but didn’t really enjoy it overall. Then I headed out to walk to the gym (it’s a mile round trip) where I did a puny 30 minutes on the elliptical at a non-respectable pace. I’m super sore from a cardio toning class I took last night.

Dinner was day1din
a whole wheat tortilla with 1/3 cup of shredded cheese, 1 tablespoon Sabra roasted red pepper hummus, and a spinach salad with 1/4 cup frozen mango chunks, a clem, and a splash of balsamic vinegar. For dessert I had the remainder of my Luna bar.

I am currently trying to figure this whole blog thing out and avoiding doing anything more productive than that.

Thanks for reading my blog!
