Eye, Eye!

Thanks to K and Ellie, I think I have an idea what my eye pain is might be caused by – a stye! I don’t have the tell-tale bump that is typically associated with styes, but all the other symptoms fit. Plus, I am kind of bad about not taking off my mascara at night, tisk tisk, so it makes sense.

I’m going to try doing warm compresses at night for the next few days and see if that helps. Google advised that I not wear my contacts because it could spread the infection to the rest of my eye,  but I can’t see without and them and my glasses are way too weak to be worn for much else besides walking from the bed to the toilet. So, I’ll have to hope for the best. Thanks for the advice girls!

The rumor was true… and I did indeed eat cake today. I don’t eat a lot of sweets in my day to day life, but before I enjoy a piece of office birthday cake I always ask myself these questions:

1. Am I really in the mood for a treat, or do I just want it because it’s there?

Yes I want it, I’m hormonal. Good enough reason for me.

2. Does the cake look good, or is there a chance it will be dry, tasteless or just not worth it?

It’s tres leche cake with strawberry topping. Um, hell yes it looks good.

So I ate a small piece and it was SOOOO good. Although I was confused as to why it was a tres leche cake with a non-dairy topping. Kind of counter-intuitive, no?

After cake I worked some more, and then met with my boss. It went really well! I feel a lot better about things now.

Before I left work, I had another Kashi Peanut Peanut butter bar.

I brought workout clothes so I could go straight to the gym, but as usual I forgot something so that plan fell through. I went home, changed, and walked to the gym. Which turned out great, because it was another semi-cool day and I enjoyed the time outside.

At the gym, I ran 3 miles on the treadmill even though I said I was going to lay off running. My legs felt okay so I went for it. I guess I’m just going to play it by ear right now. There was considerably more pain than there has been in previous weeks, but I pushed through it. It felt really good.

When I returned I showered and them assembled a super simple dinner. I knew I definitely wanted my other ear of corn.

I also needed to reunite with sweet potato fries.

And you know I can’t go very long without cottage cheese in my life.

It was definitely a hodge podge of foods, but it was sooooo good and exactly what I wanted.

TV watching for the night included parts of 90210 when I wasn’t in the kitchen and the end of The Biggest Loser. Damn, Jillian was dropping some major f-bombs! She must be mad that everyone is hatin’ on her for selling out ;) Oh my gosh, this season is SUCH a tear jerker. I am going to have to watch (when Idols not on) so I can watch Abby’s journey. What a strong woman!!

Okay… I’m off to take care of the eye, do some reading and get to bed. Night guys!

Do you wear contacts or glasses? Have perfect eye sight? Had Lasik?

I started wearing bottle-cap thick HUGE glasses in 1st grade until I got contacts in 6th grade. I can’t have Lasik due to my astigmatism (no clue how to spell that).

Five Days of Oats: Day 2

After I randomly posted this morning, I had a pretty productive few hours. I finally set a time this afternoon to meet with my boss (we’ll see if it actually happens) and finished up a big task I’ve been working on for awhile.

One of my coworkers offered me a piece of this fruit, which she called an “asian watermelon” (she is Korean, so she wasn’t saying that as a racial slur) and never being one to turn down free fruit I obliged.

It tasted a lot like honeydew melon (looked like it too), which unfortunately I am not a fan of. But it was fun to try something new!

The only downside of the morning was that my eye pain is back. I think it’s weird that it went away for a few days and then returned. I originally thought it was a scratch, but that doesn’t make sense anymore so I’m stumped. I hate taking time off work to go to the doctor, but I might have to if this persists.

I distracted myself from the pain by daydreaming about the oatmeal I was planning to have for lunch today! I had Apple Cinnamon Oats in a jar! Quaker instant Apple Cinnamon oatmeal was one of the first oatmeals I ever loved, so I knew this would be good.

I made “baked apples” by cooking one chopped Granny Smith apple doused in cinnamon and splashed with almond milk in the microwave for 2 minutes. They came out looking like this.

I put half these piping hot apples in the bottom of an almost empty pb jar, followed by the oats, and topped it with the rest of the apples plus cinnamonny almond milk,

Each bite exploded with cinnamon and peanut butter and had lovely chunks of fresh apple.

It was super delish, and was so hot and filling that it took me an hour to eat it! That is a huge deal considering I usually wolf my lunch down in 5 minutes flat (bad, I know). It was ultra convenient to take the pb jar to work and munch away on it at my desk. I wish I had enough empty peanut butter jars to do that all the time ;)

I’m really glad I’m doing this – I’m starting to understand the obsession with oats. They’ve always kind of been an afterthough for me but after this week I have a feeling I’m going to be eating them a lot more often!

Okay, back to work – rumor has it we’re having cake later. I’m probably going to have some!

No method to my madness

I know I’m not a morning poster, but since I posted so early last night, I of course had to eat a little something else after hitting ‘publish’. I definitely don’t photograph all of my eats, but I like to show the pretty ones. I had the (almost) last of my yogurt with some more fresh raspberries. I think raspberries are just gorgeous.

I had this snack while watching GG last night – and boy was I ever confused watching that show. I should have tried to catch up somehow, but the Season 2 DVDs just came out.

The last time I really watched an episode Nate and Blair were back together and there was something going on between Chuck and Vanessa. However, I did fully understand that the guys on the show looked infinitely hotter than last season. Am I right? I guess maybe they didn’t want us crushing too hard on high school boys, cuz that would be kind of creepy. But now that they’re college men…. yum.

Anywho, after I was done watching TV I followed that up with an hour of reading. The book I was so into last week was seized from me when I tried to recheck it at the library. Anyone ever heard of the Irish author, Paul Murray?

I hadn’t. I just checked the book out because it looked good, but apparently it’s quite popular. All three copies were reserved. So I had to fork it over and get a new book. It’s not as good, but whatever.

I turned in early and got almost eight full hours of sleep – sweet heaven. This morning I woke up and did the abs portion of my Workout DVD. I felt the burn!

And, because I like to randomly show my green monsters with no method to my madness – here is today’s version.

Okie dokily, have a good morning all! I’ll be back at lunch with Day 2 of oats :)
