Thanksgiving Pot Luck

Groan. Thanksgiving Pot Luck at work was a success today. Too much of a success. I don’t have great pictures because one of our really important customers was dining with us so I was busy schmoozing.

My dishes were a big hit! Namely the twice baked sweet potatoes.

I got a lot of compliments on the cranberry apple sauce too, but there was leftovers of that so I am guessing it wasn’t as well received as the potatoes were. No worries, me thinks it would make a kick ass bowl of oatmeal, so the more leftovers the better :)

By looking at this plate, you might think that I practiced some sort of self control during this meal.

Clockwise from the roll: smidge of Southern Mac ‘n Cheese, twice baked sweet tater, asparagus (which is covering some green bean casserole), tofu and cranberry apple sauce.

Now, had I stopped there it would be have been the perfect amount of food. But I definitely went back for another smidge of mac ‘n cheese, another serving of cranberry apple sauce, and lots more green bean casserole. And then I had an unpictured bowl of fruit and a few bites of cheesecake.

My stomach was not pleased. I’m not mad that I ate that much – it happens around this time of year – but I do wish I would learn to listen to my hunger cues. I hate being miserably full. I could have strung that amount of eating out over the course of the afternoon and been much more comfortable. Perhaps I will learn my lesson at home on Thursday? Yeah, probably not…

I was pretty bloatatious all day, so I got up and walked around as much as I could all afternoon. And after work, I took the pastiest legs you ever did see, put them in shorts and took them to the gym. All the food must have given me some intense energy because I was a machine on the elliptical. My legs just went as fast as I would let them go. I only had time to do 30 minutes, but that half hour truly restored my sanity.

Now, I am working on my baking. I’m making three pies for Thanksgiving and I’m also in charge of breakfast. I’m drinking one of these to make the process flow more smoothly.

I’m a huge supporter of Miller Light and have been quite a fan of their MGD64 – but I have to say that Bud’s version of ultra light beer is superior. Just in case you were wondering.

Have a good night guys, and for those of you who are already done for the week – kick back and enjoy it :)

  1. The twice baked sweet potatoes look incredible!

As much as I hate to admit this- I am a drink to get drunk drinker, I don’t overly enjoy the taste of alcohol of any kind including beer. With that said, I was all about the select 55 so I could get my nice buzz without excess calories, but select 55 only has 2.6 percent (maybe 2.9? i can’t remember)alcohol in it making it neccessary to drink twice as much to get the same alcohol content. You are probably not as much of a lush as I am, but I just wanted you to know that yes, it is a good low cal beer, but not a GET ME DRUNK ASAP beer.

  2. Yes, overeating at work seems to be inevitable around this time of year. To avoid this, I try to only eat things that I would normally not eat on any given day (so no chips, plain cookies, etc.). I eat the “once a year” items and savor every bite! I am done for the week and am soooo happy. One day until Thanksgiving – bring it on!

  3. I am curious- what is in Southern mac and cheese? Glad the potatoes were a hit! YUM :D It’s hard to not go overboard in buffet situations, especially surrounded by all your favourite foods. Just breathe, relax and remind yourself that you can always pack some up for later.

What are you making for Thanksgiving breakfast?
