Holy Smokes!

Woah Nellie! Another busy, busy day. You know you’re really busy when you use phrases like “woah Nellie” or “holy smokes” because all your cool goes out the window.

And you eat peas at 10:30 a.m. because you have a kick-off meeting during lunch. No food provided.

Peas with cheddar cheese

And then at 2 p.m. when the meeting concludes, you race to the nearest place to obtain a salad.

Later on you have an almond butter and banana sandwich.

Yummy! I don’t know why I don’t have this snack more often.

You stay late at work because a demon migraine caused you to arrive an hour late, which means that you’re super rushed getting to job number two. But, if you’re lucky, you still have time to throw together another smoothie.

Green Monster

Then you realize that you’ve had two green monsters in one day and are officially hardcore.

Or something like that anyways…

Work was amazing again today! I can only hope that someday I’ll be able to have a full-time job I enjoy that much. That would be amazing.

That’s all I’ve got tonight guys. My head is still offering me a dull throb that is far from pleasant. I see some oatmeal, a bath and some sleep in my future.

Have a good night!

Second dinner

Hey friends! I have a feeling the next few weeks are going to go by insanely fast! I can’t believe it’s already Wednesday. Life is crazy right now, but it’s all for good reason so I’m not complaining.

Training at my new job last night was awesome! For those of you that asked, I am working part-time at a brand new running and fitness store here in OKC. We are going to have a really hightech gait analysis center, and we’re learning about how to fit people with the perfect running shoe.

Last night we learned about the different bones of the feet and different injuries runners get. It was so fascinating! I definitely felt like a nerd because I was so into it, haha. I think it will actually really help me as a runner.

Plus the store is gorgeous and it’s in a brand new area with lots of great new businesses. I’m really looking forward to working there.

As I suspected, I was hungry again by the time I got home so I had a second dinner. For my first course I had an egg sandwich.

Egg sandwich on a Pepperidge Farm Deli Flat

My dinners are going to be pretty low key this week. Working 7 to 4 and then 6 to 9, with a 45 minute total commute from the first job home and back to the second job doesn’t leave a whole lot of time for much else. Luckily after training is over I won’t be pulling those hours anymore.

I also had some peas with shredded cheddar because I was still hungry.

Isn’t that bowl adorable? I got it at Fitbloggin’. It’s okay to be jealous.

I’m not really sure how my workouts are going to go this week either, but I’m not going to stress about it. I’m still not feeling very well at all. I had to come into work late today due to a serious headache, and I really need to give my body time to stop hating me so much. Next week I’ll have time to get back into my regular training and working out – until then it will just have to be touch and go.

Dig in and focus

Oof. Reality was a tough pill to swallow today. It was one of those days where athere are so many things working against you that you can only dig your heels in and keep your eyes on the prize – knowing that even though it’s going to suck royally, you will make it out alive.

Two cups of coffee, as opposed to the usual one, were had for breakfast along with a protein shake. No Green Monster as I had no spinach.

I remedied that during my lunch break by taking a quick grocery trip and also picking up this sodium-filled yet surprisingly delicious soup.

I ate the entire can while attending a baby shower at work. She’s having a boy and lots of cute blue things were ooh’ed and aaw’ed over.

Then it was back to work, work, work breaking only shortly for some cuties.

After work I rushed home to unpack, do a load of laundry, unload the dishwasher and make a pre-dinner.

Oh sweet return of all that is good in the world. I assume I’ll have a second dinner when I return from work tonight.

Speaking of work, I’d better get on the road. Don’t want to be late for my first day!

Fitbloggin’ 10: The Finale

I’m back in the O.K.C! I arrived last night at around 11 and was in my beloved bed snoozing peacefully around midnight. Waking up this a.m. was not enjoyable, but I have a busy week ahead that will keep me too occupied to be tired.

Without further ado, I present the third and final installment of my fitbloggin’ recaps. I’d also like to take this moment to thank the adorable Roni, who organized the event. She did a fanstastic job!

So Sunday morning I woke up and got all my stuff organized to check out of the first hotel. I stayed an extra night in Baltimore because it cut the cost of my flight down by almost $200, so I just moved to a much cheaper hotel.

Packing involved repairing my brand new suitcase, that somehow managed to obtain a huge rip in it during the transit from OKC to Baltimore.

Rip in my new suitcase

Duct tape saves the day. And makes my suitcase like a million times more attractive, don’t you think.

I had plans to hang out with some girls who had later flights, but before that I had a nasty breakfast. It was an egg and cheese sandwich, but it was disgusting so it shall not be revealed for your viewing pleasure.

Luckily, lunch was like a gazillion times better than breakfast. On a whim, we decided to try Pizzazz Tuscan Grille, which turned out to be a foodie paradise. They even had a vegan menu!

We started with the large hummus platter.

Pizzazz Tuscan Grill Hummus Platter

And for my entree I chose the Vegan Black Bean Burger.

Which was pretty dang good.

But it didn’t even hold a candle to dessert. We got two pieces of vegan cake to share.

Pizzazz Tuscan Grill Vegan Mint Chocolate Cake

Vegan Mint Chocolate Cake. Delicious. I don’t really even like mint, but this was fabulous.

Pizzazz Tuscan Grill Vegan Peanut Butter Chocolate Cake

But the winner of most delicious lunch item, in my opinion, was the above vegan peanut butter chocolate cake. It was out of this world good. Then I remembered that I was supposed to have given up chocolate for Lent. Maybe vegan chocolate doesn’t count? Oops.

Food bloggers in action

I love dining with other food bloggers.

Fitbloggin fun

How cute are these girls? That would be Julie and Whit.

Fitbloggin Fun

Stacey and I. She has an adorable accent also. I love Southern gals.

Fitbloggin Fun

We explored Baltimore for a few hours before they had to fly out. I stole that picture from Whit. She’s quite the photographer, no?

lighthouse

We explored this cool light house also, and just enjoyed the lovely 76 degree weather. But soon it was time for the girls to leave. I was so sad to see the weekend come to an end. But the uttern rest and relaxation I enjoyed my final night in Maryland was exactly what I needed.

All in all, I couldn’t be happier that I went to Fitbloggin. It was definitely outside of my comfort zone, but I learned a lot and met some fabulous people. I’d do it again in a heartbeat.

Work is going to be c-c-crazy for the next few months. Tons of projects just came up and I also start training for my new job tonight as well. Time to hit the ground running!

Have a fantastic Tuesday everyone!

Fitbloggin’ 10: Day 2

Hey there! I’m at the airport for the day. I’ve had a blast here in Baltimore, but it’s raining now and I’m incredibly ready to be home. I seriously lucked out with the weather though! It was gorgeous in Baltimore up until today (it’s raining now) and crappy in Oklahoma up until today (it snowed!). Supposedly it’s going to be sunny and 72 tomorrow in OKC. Color me lucky, right?!

It’s a good thing too, because I have to hit the ground running when I get back. I don’t get in until late evening and then it’s to bed, to work, and back to work – since I’m starting my new part-time gig tomorrow. I’m really excited about it though, so it will be fun.

Okay, so let’s get into Day 2 of Fitbloggin’ shall we?

Fitbloggin' 10

That morning, there was a 5K and a 1 mile fun run sponsored by New Balance. Unfortunately I felt way too sick that morning to participate. I actually woke up and tried to find a flight home ASAP because I felt so terrible. (Yes, I was being a huge baby.)

However, all the flights were completely sold out. I took this as a sign that I needed to just suck it up so I got dressed and went downstairs to join the festivities. I missed out on the oatmeal breakfast, sponsored by Quaker, so I had an Odwalla bar in the room.

Odwalla Strawberry Pomegranate Bar

The duration of the actual conference was probably when I felt the worst the whole trip, but I’m still really glad I made it to the sessions. I attended the following:

Seach Engine Optimization: Fitbloggin' 10

This session covered SEO (Search Engine Optimization), which is something I’ve always been a little fuzzy about. It was very informative, but at this point I hadn’t taken any medication so I may not have retained as much of it as I should have.

Getting Noticed: How to Pitch to Traditional Media

The Getting Noticed: How to Pitch to Traditional Media session was also really interesting. To be honest, I don’t consider my blog to be anything close to a journalistic endeavor. However, having majored in Journalism, I definitely think that blogging has its place in traditional media. Bloggers are often at the forefront of the news scene, mostly because they have no limitations on what they can write about. It got me thinking about some things I could possibly do in the future…

I believe we broke for lunch after that session was over. It was a pretty tasty lunch too!

Fitbloggin' 10 Lunch

It was a great spread! I had some of the spinach and beet salad, some roasted veggies, a roasted veggie sandwich and another mozzarella/ham (maybe?) sandwich. There was fresh fruit and jello for dessert, but I was pretty full so I passed.

I made up for it later with a delicious cookie, courtesy of Jacquie.

After lunch we headed back into more sessions. I hit up Beyond the Blog: Getting Published. In much the same way that I don’t see my blog as a journalistic endeavor, I also don’t see it as the platform for a future book. For me, blogging is an outlet and and a way of connecting with like-minded people who inform me about things I’m truly interested in.

Still, I wouldn’t mind writing a book one day (not one bit), so I was pretty fascinated by the lecture. There are a lot of avenues you can take to get published!

The fourth and final session we attended was Making Money From Your Blog: Could You? Should You? How? And hey… I’m totally not against bloggers making money from their blog. However, the session raised a lot of interesting questions about what is considered “selling out” and what are legitimate ways of monetizing your blog. All very fascinating.

If you are interested in more info about the session, the wonderful Whit apparently has some very detailed notes and I’m sure she’d be happy to share them!n That girl is organized! And beautiful and sweet, with the cutest Southern accent of all time.

A lot of girls went out for a nice dinner after the conference, but my dinner dates and I didn’t feel like shelling out too much money, so we hit up Whole Foods. Yes, I went twice in two days.

This time I got some mac ‘n cheese, plantains, cabbage slaw and who knows what else. For dessert, i had a whole wheat pumpkin and cream cheese muffin.

We ate by the harbor and enjoyed some purdy views.

My company included the following:

Fitbloggin' 10

Jess, Caitlin, (Me), Melissa, Julie (and Abby, who took this photo, thanks girl!)

After dinner we all went out and tore up the town yet again. Except my sickness kind of made me a party pooper and I headed home at around 11:30. I was glad I did though, because by Sunday morning I was feeling a little bit better.

Sunday was a really fun day also! But that post shall come at a later date. These recaps are hella long, huh? Just too much fun to cram into one post I tell you!

My flight still doesn’t board for about two hours, so I think I shall catch up on some blog reading for awhile. I’m really scared about the flight because I know it’s going to eff my sinuses up again. Blah.

I hope your Monday is going as well as humanly possible!

Fitbloggin’ 10 – Day 1

Hey guys! It’s been such a whirlwind weekend at Fitbloggin’! I’ve had a blast and I can’t believe it’s over already. Things didn’t go exactly as planned, because my sinus infection/virus or whatever I’ve been dealing with lately came back with a vengeance after flying into Baltimore. I haven’t felt very good since I got here, but I’ve definitely made the best of it. How can you not have fun when you have this to stare at?

Baltimore, Maryland Harbor

So let’s start at the beginning shall we? The first fabulous foodie I met up with was Gelareh from Nutritious Foodie. We were both in the same shuttle to the hotel, and we were both starving to death so we hit up Whole Foods (where else?!) for a salad!

whole foods salad

I’m not exactly sure what all I got, but I know there were some mixed greens, marinated veggies, chickpea salad, roasted butternut squash and wheat berries. I felt so much better afterwards. Traveling works up an appetite!

After eating we registered, got all our swag, and checked into our rooms. It was all so fabulous! The room was pretty swank.

Hotel Room

And the swag (read: free stuff) was out of control!

Fitbloggin' Swag

We got free shoes and socks from New Balance, an amazing workout shirt from Thriv, an adorable oatmeal bowl and so much more! I was definitely impressed with the loot! But I couldn’t stand around and enjoy it for too long, because I had to get ready for the cocktail party!

Fitbloggin Pom Cocktail Party

I “borrowed” this pic from the “epic” Caitlin, who is every bit as awesome as she seems on her blog.

After the cocktail party we headed out to find some food and drink at Ryleigh’s Oyster where some seriously hilarious shenanigans occurred. Check out Ashley’s blog for the proof.

As far as food goes, I had a couple of brews and a caesar salad.

Caesar salad at Ryleigh's Baltimore

So delicious. Unfortunately by this time I was feeling pretty dang awful. Blech. So shortly afterward I headed home and hit the hay.

And that concludes the first day of my Fitbloggin’ adventure. I’m so glad that I went, it was great to be able to put faces to the names of the blogs I read and also to discover new bloggers that totally rock. I’ll be back sometime in the future with day two!

Layover Blogging

Hello! I’m blogging from the airport in Houston! I’m not sure when I’ll have time to post again, so I thought I’d pop on in.

I ended up sleeping pretty great last night, but for some odd reason I felt the need to set my alarm for 5 a.m., which was approximately the time I needed to be leaving the apartment. Oops. It was a rushed situation, but I managed to get my bag checked, go through security and make it to my gate right as the door was closing. Phew!

I slept pretty much the entire flight here, which is unusual for me. I’ve been so tired lately with the combination of being sick and the time change. I hope I perk up soon!

I had two hours to kill, so I stopped in at Einstein Bros. Bagels for a quick breakfast and some caffeine.

I had a tomato, spinach and provolone whole wheat bagel – it was delicious!

While eating I did some blog reading and people watching. Oddly enough in the 55 minutes I’ve been sitting here, two people have spilled their drinks in their laps. Murphy’s Law much?

Alright, time to go find my next flight. Fitbloggin’ here I come! Have a wonderful Friday :)

Tonight, I

… ate ice cream for dinner. Butter Pecan, to be exact.

… got a stomach ache from eating said ice cream.

… finished packing for Fitbloggin.

… found out that it’s supposed to snow here tomorrow, muahahaha. Sorry Okies! Just kidding, I really hope that’s not true.

… am going to bed early, because the alarm is set to go off at 4:30 a.m.

Goodnight!!

Lesson learned: still don’t like chicken

Hey guys! How is the day so far? Mine is great, because it’s my Friday. Tomorrow morning I depart for Fitbloggin. Woo hoo!

I’m late in posting because I didn’t take pictures of my date dinner last night – he knows about the blog but I decided to not make our date all about my hobby. We did talk about it quite a bit though.

We went to a new Asian place in OKC, Saii. I got the Peanut Curry, which I think my date found off-putting. But I love curry, so I was not deterred. It was pretty tasty and the service was good. After eating we had a drink at the bar and chatted. Overall, it was a good date. The guy seems a little too good to be true though – my guard is up.

I’ll reveal more when there is more to reveal. ;)

I didn’t get home until after my bed time, so I quickly bathed and did all that jazz and hopped into bed without preparing a lunch today. Kind of kicking myself for that now. I’ve already eaten at Panera once this week (or maybe it was last Friday, I don’t remember), but it’s the only semi-healthy eatery in my vicinity so I had to return once more.

I always get either the Mozzarella and Tomato Panini, the Mediterreanean Veggie Sandwich or the Greek Salad, but today I wasn’t feeling any of those options. On a whim, I ordered something completely random for this gal.

That would be the Fuji Apple Chicken Salad… with chicken… and gorgonzola cheese. There are so many reasons why this is weird.

First, chicken is the main reason why I stopped eating meat (reminder: I eat meat, just very rarely) - I hate it that much. I think it’s flavorless and has a nasty texture. I love fake chicken, yet real chicken legitimately freaks me out. The “all natural, antibiotic-free” label must have swayed me. I’m a fool.

Also, I can’t stand gorgonzola cheese. I love feta cheese, which I could have asked for instead, but I didn’t. What was I thinking when I ordered this? I have no idea. I guess I just wanted to try something new. I liked the pecans and the apples and the dressing was nice, but the salad as a whole did not do it for me. At least I got some green in though, right?

Just to clarify, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with eating chicken or gorgonzola cheese. They just happen to be two food items I don’t enjoy.

To reconcile my poor salad choice, I made a fantastic dessert choice.

Toffee. Nut. Cookie. I died. Washed down with an unphotographed mug of half decaf/half dark roast coffee, while finishing up The Lovely Bones, which is a week past due. I’m a bad library card holder these days. Tisk.

I have a lot to do between now and boarding my flight tomorrow morning at 6:30 a.m., so no run will be had tonight. I think I’ve unofficially declared this a rest week, as my body is still full of congestion (read: phlegm) and I haven’t been sleeping well at all. Hopefully the wonderful people at Fitbloggin will get me back on track :)

Just three hours and twelve work minutes to go and then I’m home free! Have a good Thursday afternoon all.

Kefir Oats

Hello! How did the wearing of the greens treat you today? Drank any green beer yet? I haven’t, and I doubt I will, but it’s fun a thought nevertheless.

St. Patrick’s Day makes me miss Vegas because I spent the holiday there in both 2007 and 2008 with my family. Then came the recession, and no more Vegas vacations. Sigh.

For lunch today I tried out a new-to-me product – Kefir.

I had no idea how to use the stuff, so I decided to make some more overnight oats.

Overnight oats may be a lot of things, but photogenic isn’t one of them. I dressed them up with half a sliced banana and some peanut butter.

The last time I made overnight oats I didn’t think they were sweet enough. This time they were too sweet. Catch 22, I guess.

I ended up getting out of my offsite meeting because some more important work came along. I snacked on some black grapes while doing said work.

And then I headed home – making very certain that I was driving at or above the speed limit the entire way. I don’t want to be a repeat offender!

Now I’m going to do some sort of On Demand strength workout before getting ready for my date (groan). Enjoy the rest of your evening!

Lisa is hosting a giveaway for some beautiful and unique note cards – made by her mother! Be sure to check it out.
