Mid-May Update

We’re a little over halfway through the month of May. That means that there is less than half a month until it’s June, which is the middle of the year. Frightening.

Anyhow, I figured now would be a grand time to check in on my May goals and challenges.

I made it a goal to go the gym 25 days this month. I’ve been doing a pretty good job of this. I didn’t go either day this weekend, but that was kind of unavoidable. There just wasn’t time, and the gym’s hours are reduced over the weekend.

So far this month, I’ve gone to the gym 12 days. I can still easily meet my goal as long as I only take two more days off from going. I think I can do it!

I also joined Janetha’s Wakeup Call Challenge this month. I’m doing well with that also. I am currently sitting at 88 minutes of morning plyos completed. I have missed several days, but I’ve been pretty consistent with it.

Since I’ve been kicking ass and taking names with my current goals, I’ve decided to implement one more for the second half of the month.

It’s an easy one. I want to spend more time here:

bed

And less time here:

living room

Since I have to be up between 5:30 and 6 every morning, I ideally try to be in bed between 9 and 10 at night. Lately, however, I haven’t been turning in nearly as early as I should be. I blame all the season finales on TV right now, but I digress.

The lack of sleep is really starting to get to me. I’ve been completely devoid of energy during the day and . I usually get a burst right before bed, which is an endlessly frustrating characteristic of insomnia.

I’ve got to start making a solid effort at getting more sleep, so the goal is to be in bed by 9:30 every week night for the rest of the month.

In theory, this shouldn’t be too difficult, but for a natural-born night owl such as myself it will be easier said than done I’m afraid.

We’ll see how it goes.

Did you set any goals for yourself this month? How are they going?

Are you a night owl or morning person?

  1. Were you affected by the hail? I hope not- it was dreadfully scary!

I am kind of a night owl and so if I am not careful and don’t pay attention to the time then I get said ‘burst of energy’ and can’t sleep for sometimes hours-which is no bueno because I wake up at 6am as well. :)

  2. That is awesome you’ve made it to the gym that many days!! I should try posting monthly goals, maybe that would actually hold me accountable. :-)

I definitely lean toward the night owl side, but the older I get the more I force myself to go to bed earlier because I get up so dang early. I can do 5 or 6 hours of sleep for one night – just not for 2 or 3 nights, ya know?

  3. Good work on your goals!!

I’m a full fledged morning person. I tried to set a goal to get more sleep last week, and I HATED IT. It stressed me out so much. I hated going to bed knowing that I was leaving stuff undone. I also found out that 8 hrs. or sleep an 6.5 hours of sleep feels the same to me, good to know.

Good luck on your sleep goals!

  4. I didn’t set any goals this month and I think I’ve been in a sort of rut because of it. I definitely like to have goals to work towards. I’m also kind of a night owl, I have been going to be bed WAY to late recently. I need to join in on your spend more time in bed and less time on the couch goal!

  5. You’re really doing awesome, AWESOME!! I’m so inspired by your wake-up challenge, wow!!

I’m a more of a morning person during the school year, but during the summer I like staying up late! :)

  6. First of all, I can’t believe it SNOWED where you live this weekend. Talk about a downer. At least for me it would be.

I used to be a night owl, but now I’m a morning person. The calm quiet of waking up an extra hour early and having a little bit more time is something I look forward to.

    Have a great Tuesday!

  7. great job on your goals so far!

I used to be more of a night owl, but I guess I’m closer to a morning person now. Some days, I’m neither :)

  8. DVR has become my new best friend. I am toast in the mornings if I don’t get to bed by like 9:30. Makes me feel like a grandmother but who wants to be cranky all day?

  9. I love your bedding! I am totally a morning person. It may take me a second to get going though. :) I try to be in bed by 900 but I lay there forever. I hate that.

You are definitely slamming your goals!!! WOOOOOO.

  10. you are doing great! I am impressed! I can’t believe the year is half over…seriously, time, STOP.

I need to get more sleep too- I keep setting the goal of being in bed by ten and do good for a few days then it starts to get later. Recommiting myself NOW.

  11. That’s a good challenge to add. I’m a night owl too and find it hard to get my butt in bed before midnight even the night before work.
