Oklahoma City Yoga Studio Guide

With all the running I’ve been doing lately, my body has literally been craving yoga.

There are few classes at my gym I could go to, but I prefer studio yoga for several reasons:

1. I love Body Pump and Zumba, but hearing music bump in the next room is far from a relaxing atmosphere conducive to proper yoga practice.

2. The yoga instructor at my gym thinks I am/look pregant. You can read about that here if you need a good laugh.

3. Yoga studios offer a wide variety of yoga styles instead of the cookie-cutter version you often get at health clubs and gyms.

So, for last few weeks I’ve had it in my head that I wanted to try out one of the many yoga studios in Oklahoma City I’ve been hearing about. Still, this presented problems.

1. I’m really busy with working two jobs, training for a marathon, trying to strength train and cross train on occasion and just in general trying to be a productive human being.

2. When I would randomly get some free time to check out a class, I had no idea what studios where offering what classes and when. Defeated, I would usually go home and watch TV.

But no more! I decided today to compile a list of all the studios and all the classes/class times they offer to have on hand for those rare moments when I have time to take a class.

Then I thought, why not share this list with you guys? Not very beneficial for you non-Okie readers, but the locals might get some use out of it.

That’s a lot of yoga folks! It makes me excited to see just how many options I have.

Yoga is expensive, so I probably won’t get to check out more than 2-3 classes per month but I’m thinking about making a tab on the blog to do studio reviews.

I’m always interested in hearing about the atmosphere of a studio before I attend a class there so I thought that might be helpful.

Also, I didn’t have time to list studios in the Moore/Norman area (I will do it though if there’s a demand) but if you live South of OKC I highly recommend you check out Yoga Life off of Main Street.

The main instructor there, Becca, is beyond amazing. I started going to her courses on campus at OU and eventually followed her two different studios because I enjoyed her teaching style so much.

She is a hands-on instructor and will help you work within your limitations while also pushing you to challenge yourself.

She’s pretty much the instructor that I compare all future yoga instructors to, and so far no one has impressed me like she did.

Now I have a lot of research to do and hopefully I’ll find some great classes to stretch out my poor, sore legs.

  1. This is very helpful. Are there any studios in Stillwater? I just purchased this yoga chair and am looking for suggestion about what postures will be best to incorporate into my workday. Already half lotus and pin wheel keep me pretty focused for an eight hour day. Any suggestions?
