Finally Owning It

Today… I’m finally going to own it.

This past weekend I ate out five times, and I liked it. A lot.

Friday night I went to a wine tasting and ate there. Offerings included cheese and crackers, stuffed mushrooms (ew, I don’t like fungus!), and chocolate cake. The chocolate cake was bomb.

Saturday for lunch I split Hideaway pizza with my coworkers, and also had one and a half fried mozzarella sticks dipped in ranch.

That evening, I was so full from the pizza and fried goodness that I had a dinner of three beers and half a sushi roll. I fully support beer as dinner on occasion.

Sunday I got a petite vanilla scone and a latte from Starbucks as breakfast number one. I had another breakfast later, but it still counts as eating out.

Then, Sunday night I had takeout tofu tepanyaki for dinner. Oh, and I ate it on the couch while watching TV.

It was all good. Sorry, I’m not sorry.

You see, I love to cook and I love to eat healthy, but I also love to do and eat new things and cultivate new relationships and opportunities.

Sometimes that means that it’s easier to eat out.

Sometimes it means you want to eat out so you can spend more time with people you kind of like.

Sometimes it means someone is offering to buy you food, and only a fool would say no to that.

So yeah, 5 out of 7 meals this weekend were eaten out. I own it.

Oh yeah, and all of that food I ate out? Not one picture.

Sorry, I’m not sorry.

I really did used to like food blogging. It was easy, it was fun and I was decent at it.

Then, I started to open up about things that mean a little bit more to me than the food I put in my mouth and I fell in love with blogging about what I want and not only what I eat.

There will still be food on this blog, but with much less regularity.

Consider it owned.

In fact, food blogging was making me binge.

Have you ever eaten five handfuls of shredded cheddar cheese out of the package just because the attractive dinner you blogged about didn’t feel you up?

I have and it wasn’t pretty. Food blogging was great at first, but eventually it started to limit me. I know a lot of other bloggers have expressed similar experiences.

It’s just not worth it. And honestly, I’m pretty sure no one really cares that much what we’re eating.

I mean, we like to look at pretty food and all, but does it affect anyone else if we have a hamburger versus a salad for lunch?

Nope, it sure does not.

Now, I eat what makes sense for me at the time. Usually, that’s 7 to 9 small to not-so-small snacks per day and maybe one full meal.

This keeps me from eating half a jar of peanut butter later on because I ate what the blog wanted all day instead of what I wanted.

It’s owned ya’ll.

Nine times out of ten, boots will be more important to me than groceries.

So when I stumble upon that perfect pair of black flat boots that I have been envisioning in my head for over a year and never found in person, I will definitely buy them and eat peanut butter and jelly for then next two months if necessary.

This may or may not have already happened. Either way, sorry I’m not sorry.

I like fashion more than food. Totally owned.

I have not followed my marathon training plan for ummm… about three weeks now due to injury and distraction.

Okay, maybe I’m a little sorry about this one – because I’m so scared about this upcoming 26.2 mile jog that I’ve taken to wearing Depends.

However, even though I feel like total wuss, I’m going to see the doctor today to get some advice about healing up my leg so I can get back on the wagon.

Oh, and when I went online to download the forms for my appointment, I noticed that the doctor was hot, which means I definitely dressed cute today.

For that, I’m definitely sorry, I am not sorry.

Hot doctors are… hot.

Owned.

What do you own today?

  1. First, let me congratulate you for the conclusion of surviving depression. I truly appreciate you sharing your struggle with it.

Second, OWN IT. I bet you feel free now, huh? Nothing wrong with eating out. Hell, one day last week ALL I ate the entire day were sugar cookies and cupcakes. No joke. That’s it. Sorry, I’m not sorry. They were damn delicious.

And if your doctor looks like him, I officially hate you. JK, I will sorta hate you, and request that you take pictures of him on your first date.

As always, love you and your blog oh so much, kindred spirit! <3

  2. Boot pictures please! I love flat boots :) I’m glad you had a great weekend with awesome food. I had two beers with dinner last night (by myself) and it was lovely. :)

  3. Amen on the food blogging. Not worth the binging. Plus, I spent way too much money so I could have pretty and “cool” food to blog about.

also–remember, before your half you got sick and didnt quite follow your plan and you did fine. It will all work out.

  4. Hot doctorssss, yesssss. And I’m with you on food blogging, I actually gained some weight when I was trying to cook pretty things to photograph every night. Sure i’ll still feature recipes or interesting meals, but not everything I eat!

  5. I ate out a good portion of the weekend, too. The only thing I apologized to was my stomach when it decided to do backflips when the pizza didn’t go down well… ugh. Other than that? Denny’s at 3:00 in the morning? Bring it!

It’s important to be healthy. But that includes mental happiness, too. :)

  6. I love eating out every now and then. In fact, the boyfriend and I have big plans to go out for dinner next weekend. I’ve already decided where we’re going to go. Its one of those you-pick-every-single-ingredient-and-we-cook-it type places. They charge you by the weight of your meal. No one has EVER gotten a bigger meal than me. You put me in front of that much food, and I cannot be expected to exercise ANY self control. And you know what, Im totally ok with that. :)

  7. Definitely no need to be sorry about eating in front of the TV, especially if it’s a yummy meal :P I think the only time I do eat at a table is for holiday dinners..other than that it’s in front of the tube.

Also, regarding the pretty meals not filling us up. I used to only blog half of my dinner because the amount of food I actually eat isn’t very attractive..but then I realized the amount of food I was showing was even worse- looked like less than bird food. Now it’s a balance between filling up and making it pretty. Doesnt always happen, but it’s getting better :P

  8. I hear ya on the food photos! 99.9% of the time my food photos look like trash, also why I have cut back on blogging or blogging only about food. I just don’t care THAT much. :)

I need some new fall boots like whoa. Shopping definitely need to take place this weekend!

  9. Woo for owning it! You know that food blogging was very triggering for me so I hear ya on that! Daps girl. (I’m going to bring “daps” back) I saw some black flat boots at Academy for $25! It’s on my wish list. My general doc is hot and when he checks my ears, I’m all “I need a fan!” Then he asks me if I’m ok. :)

Glad you are sticking w/ your appointment. I’m so proud of you for keeping it. WERK the cuteness today even though you’re semi off the market. A girl can still appreciate the opposite sex.

  10. I totally eat out! Hot wings and subs are my best friend.
I don’t workout. It just made my back hurt.
Healthy living is called living! And I am glad you do it!

  11. I love that you keep it real. With my old blog I was really starting to feel confined, so I just am doing what I want now and I love it! Blogging is like a little snippet of life – the more trapped we feel, it’s no good for us. Just do you, no apologies, and have fun! I get that vibe from you.

  12. I love this post :) And I’m glad you’re not sorry, haha! Today I own my ability to be a nerd. I am currently wearing new glasses, made an A on my Chemistry exam and when I go to bed I will attach a reading light to the top of my head so that I can read my novel :D Sorry I’m not sorry :)
