The doctor’s appointment yesterday was, as expected, a bit of a drag.
The doctor (who really was hot, but is married with two lovely kiddos) ordered some x-rays, which confirmed nothing.
He says he thinks I have the beginning of a stress fracture, and that I need to do as much of my mileage in the form of cross training as possible.
Blah.
He also gave me some heel lifts to help with the pain and a calcium/vitamin D supplement.
I know that’s the best that he could do, but I wanted a solution. You know like do A + B and then you’ll be all better.

NOT!!
So, I didn’t get the quick fix I wanted, but I’m going to put my big girl drawers on and deal with it!
The plan is to continue training like normal, except I’m going to sub in the elliptical for one to two of my shorter runs per week.
Hopefully that will be enough to keep the pain at bay and then after the marathon I can let things heal up for good.
We’ll see how it goes.
Other than that, yesterday was a strange day. It was good, and then not so good, and then good, and then not so good.
But… today is a new day and even though Tuesdays are generally a bummer I am ready to perservere!
Do you go to the doctor often? I hate going and usually put it off until I can’t anymore.

sorry, girl… I hope today IS better.
working at a naturopathic clinic helped me go to the doc whenever I needed!! even if I would get a headache or something mid afternoon, I could always go down to the dispensary and mix up a tincture to get rid of it !
Sucks that the dr didn’t give you a solid solution.
I only go to the dr when I have to. But that’s because my family doctor is horrible. I very much dislike her.
Sorry about your stress fracture, Sissy!! I told you it was probably more than just a strained muscle…muscles usually heal up after a couple days. You’ll be fine in no time. You should ice it each time you finish running too (reduces swelling).
I haven’t had to go to the doctor for anything except my ear infections (since my gallbladder came out). It’s been very nice not to have to go to the doctor all the time!!
I hope it doesn’t turn into a stress fracture! I hateeeeeeee the doctors, I always put it off until the last minute possible and then it seems like all my annual appointments are within days of each other.
I detest going to the doctor and always put it off as long as possible. I think my biggest problem is that 90% of them time they just say they can’t really do anything or to watch it for another x amount of days or weeks and then come back. It’s good that you went but sorry you didn’t get a better answer!
Sorry about the diagnosis… just please be VERY careful! That’s how my injury started last year and I just didn’t pay attention until it it hurt too much to walk and ended up on crutches for a few weeks. Ugh.
So after just saying that, it probably goes without saying that I am NOT a doctor person. I hate everything about it- setting an appt, the waiting room, awkward questions, getting down to my skivvies… ugh!
I actually don’t mind doctors. If something is wrong with me, I go quick to figure it out that way it won’t get worse. But, I’ve also had like a million broken bones and injuries and weird things happen to me, so I’m not one to f*ck around with the doctor.
I’m sorry about the diagnosis. Treat it VERY carefully. You don’t want to have that stress fracture turn into worse. I had two stress fractures in my wrists (both wrists) in gymnastics and I eventually had to have a cast on both arms for a while. Not fun.
Ha so ironic – I just scheduled a physical. I hate going to the doctor.
I hate going to the doc’s office too. Bummer he couldn’t help you out more!
I avoid doctors..yick. The smell, the shots, the everything is horrid. I have no idea what I will do when I get preggers and have to go often…eeek!
I never hesitate to go to the doctor. I go to the regular doc, the ob doc and the dermatologist once a year. When I had knee pain I called an ortho doc right away! I guess the good news is that there isn’t a stress fracture yet. Frustrating though. Take care of yourself girl!
I know nothing about doctors except that I generally avoid them for lame diagnoses like this. Or because of things like, “Oh no, you don’t have strep,” two days before I come back with tonsils so swollen I can hardly swallow water.
Be careful with that and baby it, it can only heal things faster! AKA Don’t be a hardass, Kacy
I actually just had a follow-up with my (knee) doctor this morning….mine is v. v. nice but not hot.
I know EXACTLY what you mean, because he basically told me he didn’t know what else to tell me about my (18 month old) injury. It’s SO frustrating to hear, especially when I have to pay $$$ just for him to tell me that. I’ve had stress fractures (3) before, so just be careful! It it bothers you at all when you’re running, maybe try run/walking? I only say that because when I tried to “run through the pain,” I ended up not being able to run for 6 weeks.
I hope it feels better soon!
I am the same way. I hate going and can’t even remember the last time I went. It feels like the always say the same thing.
Keep the positivity up girlfriend. I’m loving it! Most people would be down and out, but not you.
I hate the doctor.. bleh!
Oh Kacy, I know how frustrating medical woes can be! It all seems so unfair. Keep your chin up! Remember to give your body extra love and gentleness right now. And eating apples won’t hurt either ; )
I’m sorry, that really is so frustrating!
I go to the doctor for every little thing…I’m bad! I mean I guess it’s a good things but at times my doc looks at me like I’m crazy…she’s liek what NOW? lol
I’m so glad you went! It’s for the best. I know it’s not the answer you wanted but it could have been worse. Way to suck it up.
I don’t normally go unless I have to either. I know – after I was all “better safe than sorry” to you lol.
I also only go to the doctor when I have to, minus the yearly physical to make sure I’m not broken or something. If it didn’t cost so much, I might go earlier. Then again, probably not.
As for hot doctors, I think doctors are hot only if they aren’t my doctor. The same for dentists. I don’t want some hot dentist/doctor poking and prodding around when I have a sinus infection or something. I would rather dine with a doctor than pee in a cup.
I never go to the doctor unless I really need to. I’m just too lazy and I hate the smell of hospitals and doctor’s offices. Sorry you couldn’t find a quick fix! Although, that usually almost never happens. Hope things get better soon. At least the doctor was hot, right?
I’ve had a stress fracture from gymnastics a few years ago and then it showed up again last year after running a lot. Luckily, you seemed to catch it wayyy earlier than I did so it’s good you’ll be able to take precautions and hopefully avoid the pain. :/
I HATE going to the doctor. I’ve been like a hundred million times since I got pregnant. I’m so glad that I don’t have to go for another year!
I try not going to the doctor … I hate waiting, and I always feel like my problems aren’t big enough to waste a doctors time (i.e. my sore throat is probably just a cold, not throat infection, and I don’t want them to be annoyed at me for coming in for something so silly)
I feel the same way. I always feel like a baby when I go in.
Hopefully subbing in the elliptical will do the trick.
I am actually a doctor and HATE going in to see my own doctor. I am such a baby
