Some time ago, when I was feeling particularly motivated, I brought a set of resistance bands from home to keep at work.
I brought them in, put them in a cupboard and promptly forgot about them.
Since I haven’t been able to attend Body Pump lately, I decided to whip them out yesterday and see what it was all about.
I was a bit intimidated. I’ve never really used resistance bands before and I didn’t know how it worked.
I figured it out though. There were three bands of various resistance and you just hooked the one you wanted to use up to the handle.
I made it work and did a nice little in-office workout consisting of:
- 3 x 15 shoulder press
- 3 x 15 bent-over rows
- 3 x 15 lateral shoulder raises
- 3 x 15 bicep curls
- 3 x 15 tricep dips
- 50 crunches
- 30 desk push-ups
It was nothing compared to a Body Pump class, but my upper body is sore today so I consider it a major success!
In other workout news, my leg is hurting more than ever now that I’ve actually been to a doctor. Go figure.
I tried to run last night but had to resort to the elliptical. I’m hoping for better luck tonight, and then I’ll do the elliptical again tomorrow to prepare for my 18-miler on Saturday!
I reallyneed to keep up with my mileage if at all possible, I want to run this marathon!
Q: Do you ever workout at work? I know this girl does. I have a spare pair running shoes in my desk and always think I’m going to go walk at work, but my office is in a semi-scary part of town and I always decide against it.

I would almost certainly hurt someone and/or accidentally tie myself up with that.
well considering I work in a gym, yes I workout at work
hehe but if I worked in an office I would totally bring some bands etc and do some stretches and exercises! hey, if you can make it work and find the time go for it!
I power walk for 20 minutes every day and stretch for a good 5-10 minutes during lunch. I need to move around at least once a day- I hate desk jobs!!
I have resistance bands at work too, but always forget about them.
I never worked out at work! Well, besides when I worked at the gym. But nope!
Yea for resistance bands! You’re right- they’re not high intensity, but they’re nice when you’re lower on energy and just want to do something!
ha! I wouldn’t know what to do with a resistance band, but I’m sure that I could hurt myself with out even trying.
I do yoga at work on my lunch breaks. It is a little strange, but I get to use my own music, my own routine, and am left to my own thoughts for just long enough to make it through the day.
That photo of you it too cute, by the by!
I dont workout at work ever. My office is in a shady area too, so I just wait till I get home.
Nice! I’ve never used resistance bands before – very cool!
I workout at work almost every day- I take my lunch breaks to walk or strength train (the gym is 6 floors south of me AKA I have NO excuse!)
I used to do yoga in the empty yoga room at my lunchtime… and if I started to feel sleepy in the afternoon I’d run up & down the stairs a few times… my office had a door with an outside stairwell – it was PERFECT !
Brilliant idea! I’ve never worked out at work. I would like to get a run in during my lunch hour but I feel like I would be dodging too many people.
I hope your leg feels better!! So annoying.
Hey — did you read the article in Marie Claire on the “Big Six” bloggers? Get it if you didn’t. I’d be interested to hear what you think…
I don’t workout at work. I probably should since we have a mountain I could hike that would only take like 30 minutes. There is also a lot of stores I could walk too. I take my lunch to catch up on blogs but maybe I should try it.
I’m impressed! I never work out at work, mostly because I share an (open) office with 3 other people and there are constantly people walking by. I wish I could, though!
Love that scary face lol! I may have spit my water out by accident. Oops. I was hoping you were talking about me but the link didn’t work. Boo. And if you were talking about me – WAHOOOOO! You know I love working out at work. Stank be damned!
I was. I wonder why it didn’t work? Fixing it now!
No worries. Thanks for the shizout iz-out. OK. That sucked.
That sucks about your leg! I was really hoping it would be so much better. I know you’ll pull it out somehow. 18 miles!!!
It’s good you’re able to workout at work. I know so many people who “just cant” because of work..but they usually have desk jobs and arent ridiculously busy. So umm, yes, you can!! lol
I work out at work every day – then I don’t have to mess up my family time. I could easily sneak in another workout in the morning, but I like my quiet/coffee/blog time in the morning before going to work!
Good for you, those bands intimidate me a little, too! Sometimes if I’m having a particularly stressful day, I’ll walk during my lunch break – it feels so nice to get out of the building for a little bit. And on days we have indoor recess, my kids and I do aerobics for about 10 minutes, it’s a fun little energy boost.
I’m so sorry your leg is still in pain! That’s a major bummer. I hope it starts feeling fabulous by Saturday.
You seem to be doing awesome on cross training. Way to go on pulling out the ole resistance bands!
I don’t think I’ve ever worked out during work. I do sometimes like to take a walk around the neighborhood during my lunch break though.
You are so smart to keep those at work! Sometimes I go for a walk in the morning or afternoon outside around our parking lot….but I don’t work in the best of areas, so I haven’t been doing it too much lately. Although this perfect fall weather has me thinking I should start up again!
I take my students on a brisk walk sometimes, so I get a bit of a workout
