workout-a-thon

So I’m a big chicken. It’s night two in D.C. and I still haven’t ventured out to explore. I just feel weird about heading out into an unknown city in the dark by myself.

Instead I’ve been spending my time in the hotel, which means I’ve had lots of time to workout. After a long day of sitting in training, I was craving it.

I started with some FitTV. First up, kickboxing.

I did about 25 minutes of this kickboxing routine, which was pretty fun, but then I broke for dinner. I ate, digested a bit, then went back for more.

I had a headache, so yoga was perfect.

I just realized that might look slightly inappropriate at first glance. Sorry about that. It was a surprisingly good flow though, and relieved some of the stress I’d incurred from yesterday’s travel.

Then it was time for my favorite FitTV star – Gilad!

He cracks me up, and offers a pretty decent workout to boot.

Then, I still had some time on my hands so I headed down to the gym. It was empty this time.

Basic, but workable. Tonight I just hopped on the elliptical for 30 minutes.

After that, I finally called it quits. It was a fun series of workouts!

Q: Do you have any favorite TV workout personalities? I know Jillian is all the rage these days, but I like some of the throwbacks like Gilad and Denise Austin. What can I say? I’m old school.

*Note: This is not typical of my typical workout routine. I don’t advocate 2+ hour workouts on a regular basis.

Salad #5: Hit the spot

I had salad #4 with the bf at BJ’s Brewery on Sunday. It’s hard to choose a salad sometimes at restaurants when there are other great menu items I’d rather have, but I did it anyways.

I also ordered another restaurant salad yesterday evening for dinner. It doesn’t look like anything special, but it actually really tasted fresh and delicious. Maybe it was because I hadn’t eaten since breakfast and it was 5 p.m. – but something about it was quite tasty.

I also had some chili with it, but it was not good at all. Ick.

Then, I got ready to get my sweat on.

I don’t tend to do typical exercise when I go on vacation. I try to get in activity by walking around the area, swimming in the pool or dancing til sunrise…

But, this isn’t a vacation, it’s a business trip. I’m all by my lonesome and exploring a foreign city on foot in the dark seems like a bad idea. Therefore I’ve decided to make an effort to get some solid workouts in. Why not?

After I ate my salad, I hit up the hotel gym. It was pretty modest (and packed, so no picture) but I still did a 40 minute incline walk on the treadmill. No running, my feet were pretty sore from all the walking around at the hotel. It was a nice, relaxing sweat sesh.

Then I remembered that the hotel offered in-room workout kits as well. I definitely had to check that out.

We’ve got:

  • A weighted ball
  • A pilates band
  • A yoga strap
  • 2 yoga blocks
  • 2 hand weights
  • yoga mat (pictured below)

Not bad! After I wiped it all down with disinfecting wipes, I decided to put the mat and weighted ball to use for some ab work.

I don’t usually do weighted ab work, so I really felt it. Good stuff!

Okay, I’m off to training for the day. Have a great Tuesday!

Do you tend to work out when traveling?
