A New Training Season

I just ran 3.0 miles. The furthest I’ve ran in a month and a half. Why, you ask? Because I’m training for another half marathon!

This race will be a lot different than the other two I have participated in. It’s a lot smaller. It’s a fast, downhill course. And… I’m running it with a friend!

Lisa had the idea to run a half mary together, and I was ecstatic. We’re great running partners since we pace pretty close and I love hanging out with her so I think it’s going to be a blast!

I had a really great training plan put together that had plenty of time for yoga, Body Pump and cross training. I’m hoping to keep that up, but the truth is that the next few months are likely going to be insane. I’m taking some big risks and if all goes according to plan, my life is about to turn completely upside down. That’s okay though, because I’m super excited about it and the race will help me keep my workouts up in the meantime.

Are you planning to participate in any races this Spring?

Not playing around

The angels are singing and I join them in their happy song. Why? Because I finally got some sleep last night.

it’s a good thing too, because I was about to turn into a pumpkin. Yesterday was probably the most unproductive day of my life.

I was so tired that my skin ached, my eyes burned and the thought of doing anything more than switching positions on the couch made me want to cry.

Clearly, I didn’t get any sleep on Saturday night either.

I still had a good Saturday though. Yoga was relaxing, work at the part-timer was productive (lots of people starting to run a la their resolutions, and it’s always fun to chat with new runners) and then I went to dinner with my brother and SIL at a really delicious restaurant that I’ve blogged about before here.

Stella is a great new restaurant in Midtown that attempts to serve food that is as organic and local as possible. I had some delicious food and a perhaps one libation too many.

When I drink, I fall asleep easily but then wake up super early without being able to go back to sleep. I should have avoided the booze and maybe I wouldn’t have been so tired yesterday. Oh well.

The only things I did on Sunday that are worth noting are as follows:

  • Ate leftover pasta from Stella for breakfast.
  • Went to Target to get Benadryl, Melatonin, Unisom and sleepy time tea to ensure I got sleep tonight.
  • Made a pineapple pizza and ate 3/4 of it.
  • Ate an entire bar of Lindt dark chocolate with sea salt
  • Finished my laundry.
  • Went to bed at 9:30 and actually fell asleep!

Not my finest work. Being tired makes me eat sugar and carbs with reckless abandon. Oh well… it was all tasty.

To those that asked, I was already taking Bendaryl and Melatonin for sleep most nights, but recently had run out of Benadryl and I think that may have had something to do with my sleep troubles.

I hate that I have to take medicine every single night for sleep, but the week of no sleep made me care a lot less.

I do try to spread everything out though. I take the Bendaryl around 6 p.m. so that I won’t be groggy when I wake up in the morning. Then around 8 I take the melatonin so it can start making me feel sleepy and last night, because I was so desperate, I took the unisom right as I was getting into bed. I wasn’t playing around.

I was hoping for a snow day today, but no such luck. Guess it’s another 5-day work week ahead. All is well though because at the end of it I think I have another 3-day weekend and my birthday!

What are your policies on taking meds? I know lots of people won’t take any sort of medication unless they’re on their death bed. I think that’s great, as all those drugs can’t ultimately be good for us, but I’m the kind of person that if it hurts and something can fix it – I’m going to take it.
