I love days when I can leisurely prepare for my long run. No major plans, no time limit just an open day.
Usually, I start off watching a bit of TV (while eating eggs and toast, which you’ve seen hundreds of times around these parts).
After breakfast is done, I stretch for awhile and read bogs.
I may even finish up some laundry.
Then I hit the road, go to the gym because I’m a weather wimp, and run 8.25 miles on the treadmill. I feel good about it and head home to refuel.
I’ve been wanting to try this Silk Pure Almond chocolate almond milk for awhile now, and had a coupon recently so I finally picked some up.
I used a little of half a cup and combined it with a container of Honey-Nana Chobani Champions and half a frozen banana.
It tasted like a delicious milkshake, but the combination of carbs and protein made for a great post-run meal.
I drank it while stretching even more and then hit the showers. A successful Sunday long run, most definitely.
What’s your ideal pre- and post-workout routine?
(P.S. The SIL’s surgery is today, keep her in your thoughts!)

I dont think I have a nice routine yet. yours sounds good though, and your post workout shake sounds great!
I definitely am slow to start. My excuse is that I need at LEAST an hour or two for my breakfast to digest.
I don’t really have much of a pre or post workout routine, I wish I did! Its usually me trying to figure out when I have time and getting it done! I did however, go for my long run yesterday right after I woke up, I am not much of a morning person so I shocked myself there…but I wanted to get it done and have the rest of the day to do whatever I needed too and not plan on when the baby takes a nap, etc.
Thinking of your sister-in-law today and wishing her a speedy recovery.
I love days like that.
Also, I am now DESPERATE to try that almond milk.
Thinking of your SIL!!
Sending positive thoughts to the SIL!!
My post-run routine is icing, slurping down a gigantic smoothie, and then taking a nice, long hot shower!
i like to eat a banana and peanut butter sandwich before doing a long run so i can avoid cramps!
Fingers crossed your SIL’s surgery goes well!
I love chocolate almond milk, I can drink the whole thing all by myself.
I can do 1/2 a bagel and peanut butter before a long workout – then I take half the amount of insulin I normally would and it usually balances out my blood sugar. Then I wait 30 minutes after I work out, check my blood sugar again to see where I am at.
Thanks for your positive comments my way – I needed it last week!
Good luck to your SIL!! Keep us posted!
Pre-run, I usually eat, pack what I need and get going. If I take too long, I lose motivation and it doesn’t take much.
Best of luck to your SIL!
I”m doing laundry now – BLAH.
I like to get my runs out of the way as soon as I wake up-otherwiseI think of every other excuse or how comfortable my couch is with my comp on my lap…post runs I like to sit with a smoothie and a spoon:)
that smoothie looks delicious!! i haven’t tried the chocolate almond milk before.
i’m doing a Chobani giveaway too so maybe you can replenish your stash if it’s running out
I’m thinking of your sil! I hope her surgery went well and she is recovering smoothly.

Hi, just popping in to check out your blog! Wrote about this today too.
Post-run I like to lose as much excess clothing as possible, grab a glass of water to enjoy while I stretch out my legs, and enjoy a tasty supper! (I almost always do my runs in the evening).
Happy running!
