Lazy Long Run Routine

I love days when I can leisurely prepare for my long run. No major plans, no time limit just an open day.

Usually, I start off watching a bit of TV (while eating eggs and toast, which you’ve seen hundreds of times around these parts).

After breakfast is done, I stretch for awhile and read bogs.

I may even finish up some laundry.

Then I hit the road, go to the gym because I’m a weather wimp, and run 8.25 miles on the treadmill. I feel good about it and head home to refuel.

I’ve been wanting to try this Silk Pure Almond chocolate almond milk for awhile now, and had a coupon recently so I finally picked some up.

I used a little of half a cup and combined it with a container of Honey-Nana Chobani Champions and half a frozen banana.

It tasted like a delicious milkshake, but the combination of carbs and protein made for a great post-run meal.

I drank it while stretching even more and then hit the showers. A successful Sunday long run, most definitely.

What’s your ideal pre- and post-workout routine?

(P.S. The SIL’s surgery is today, keep her in your thoughts!)

  1. I don’t really have much of a pre or post workout routine, I wish I did! Its usually me trying to figure out when I have time and getting it done! I did however, go for my long run yesterday right after I woke up, I am not much of a morning person so I shocked myself there…but I wanted to get it done and have the rest of the day to do whatever I needed too and not plan on when the baby takes a nap, etc.

  2. Fingers crossed your SIL’s surgery goes well! :D I love chocolate almond milk, I can drink the whole thing all by myself. :D

I can do 1/2 a bagel and peanut butter before a long workout – then I take half the amount of insulin I normally would and it usually balances out my blood sugar. Then I wait 30 minutes after I work out, check my blood sugar again to see where I am at.

Thanks for your positive comments my way – I needed it last week! :D

  3. I like to get my runs out of the way as soon as I wake up-otherwiseI think of every other excuse or how comfortable my couch is with my comp on my lap…post runs I like to sit with a smoothie and a spoon:)

  5. Hi, just popping in to check out your blog! Wrote about this today too.

Post-run I like to lose as much excess clothing as possible, grab a glass of water to enjoy while I stretch out my legs, and enjoy a tasty supper! (I almost always do my runs in the evening).

    Happy running!
