The switch up

As I’ve mentioned, I’ve decided to switch my workout routine from a more traditional one (running, cross training, Body Pump and occassional weight lifting on my own) to a more yoga-centric one.

I signed up for a month of unlimited yoga classes at a studio I enjoy and I’m already in love with my decision. I feel so much less pressure because I’m not training for anything or stressing myself out over doing cardio or weights a certain number of days per week.

I’ve been to two yoga classes so far and after each class I’ve felt so rejuvinated that I’ve gone for a run. It’s like the two go hand in hand.

Last night, for example, I went to an awesome class filled with many hip openers and back stretches and other fun things (this particular instructor focuses a lot on energy-building breath techniques and intense movements that result in an awesome muscle burn).

Then I got home and went for a 3-mile run around my apartment. I took it easy, with an average 10:12 pace and negative splits and was very happy with the run.

It just goes to show that if you’re feeling like you’re in an exercise rut, sometimes all it takes is changing it up. I completely adjusted my regime and now I’m excited for every workout.

And if you want to say that yoga isn’t a workout, that’s cool it’s a free country, I’ll just probably stop liking you ;)

Before my workout I “fueled up” with one of these babies.

Can you believe that before last month I had never had a Cadbury Creme Egg? The innards of them always kind of grossed me out, but I grew a pair and tried my first one while I was in D.C. and it was pretty life-changing. I’m also a huge fan of the mini eggs. I had some of those last night as well.

When I got home I had this new, amazing cereal for dinner.

Best. Cereal. Ever. It tastes like Captain Crunch. Get some.

For the record, I did not consume one vegetable yesterday. I really have nothing positive or negative to say about that, I just felt it was worth mentioning.

Do you switch up your workout routine often, or is it pretty steady?

Have you ever had a Cadbury Creme Egg? Love em or hate em?

  1. I don’t like the Cadberry eggs…they are TOO sweet for me. I like the reeses shaped like eggs. Something about a Reese Cup shaped like an egg makes everything taste better!!

    • I’m going to hopefully go every evening Mon-Thurs except when I have to work at RC (like tonight). And hopefully Saturday mornings and Sunday afternoons. I’m going to do the more chill classes for the first three weeks or so and then maybe start going to power yoga. Come anytime!! There are also some hot yoga classes and another cool class called Rock & Flow and another studio that I want to check out!

  2. i LOVe changing up my workout routine! i have been really trying to incorporate more yoga into my life! after my competition I def want it to be a weekly thing…I love it and it is SO good for the body! :) glad you are enjoying the switch up!

  3. You know what? Call me crazy but I HATE Cadbury Cream Eggs! I love the mini eggs though :) And I was going to say that BEFORE you asked the question.. haha.

Anyway, you know my workout story but I like questions so I will answer anyway. I used to religiously do 3 HIIT days and 3 weight days, alternating the two types, and one day off. I recently switched to the Insanity workouts in the MORNING instead of after work workouts and now I do Bikram 3x a week. This has been going on only since the beginning of April, but I can already see MAJOR differences in my body and my energy levels and my flexibility. Yay for change!

Also.. the Berry Blossoms look divine.

Love you Kacy! Glad you are excited about working out!!

  4. I’m always doing something different to workout, yoga to cardio to weight training, if I didn’t I would get so bored! Exercise videos on ExTV make it so easy to do something different every week too, love it. Yoga is amazing, enough said :)

  5. Yoga is SUCH a good workout…makes my muscles turn into jelly. And yes, I have to switch up my workouts often, otherwise I get bored.

And I think cadberry eggs are delightful, but something in the insides hurts my teeth SO badly that I can’t eat them.

  6. I’m slowly getting into yoga also, I feel great when I’m done. It’s good before or after a run. I really like it and hope to get better at it.

I’ve never tried a Cadbury Creme Egg but maybe I will now ;)

  7. I really want to try yoga. I keep hearing so many good things about it. I should really check it out. I think it would be a big stress reliever for me.

I LOVE Cadbury Cream Eggs!!! They are so good! I never had one until last year! Mike keeps buying them. He needs to stop! :)

  8. I’m not a fan of the Cadbury eggs but I like Easter b/c the malted “robin’s eggs” come back. The whole bag disappears into my mouth.

I’m looking forward to training being over so I can do other things – like yoga again! And I’m way burned out on running.

  9. I too am a runner and have also just recently incorporated yoga into my exercise regimen and I know EXACTLY what you mean about being rejuvinated after you do yoga! I almost always have so much energy when I’m done, that I go for a run and feel like I could run forever! The two do – oddly – go together.

I clicked on the link of the studio you are going to, but it came up with an error. Which yoga studio in OKC are you going to? I have been wanting to try a class. Right now I’m just doing videos at home. FYI…Body by Bethenny (Bethenny Frankel) is an awesome one!

  10. Gotta Love Cream Eggs… ha ha!
As usual.. your sense of humor does not disappoint!
Thanks so much for the smiles each and every day…

  11. I always think it’s funny when I realize that I haven’t had a vegetable in a day (because I usually try so hard to load up) but you just have those days sometimes! :) Good call on switching up the exercise- I think I’m due to do that!
