Bloggers, baseball and… fries for dinner

Last night took me to my very first Major League Baseball game.

The lovely Amanda from Eats, Love and Happiness organized a blogger meet-up at last night’s Nationals versus Cardinals game.

I’ve been trying to meet up with her for a long time, but our schedules never aligned so it was nice to finally put a face to the blog.

She’s a doll and a great planner. I love people who love to plan. Although lately I’m constantly late to things due to my lack of understanding of DC traffic and the metro – Amanda still waited for me in the not amazing weather with my ticket. So sweet!

Kelly and I metro’d together, and we were both starving once we got there so, along with Ms. Gretchen, we set out to find some grub.

I kind of wanted a hot dog, but my stomach was still a little off, so I went with the next best thing – fries in a box!

I had a small box of fries with chipotle ketchup and a Miller Lite. Dinner of champions right there.

I’d like to say that I’m going to become a hardcore Nats fan (they won last night, heyo!), but I didn’t really pay all that much attention to the game – there were just too many fun people to talk to!

I think there were seventeen bloggers in attendance? Awesome! Thanks to Stephanie for providing the above picture!

I caught up with Megan, who actually moved here one week before me. We both just started new jobs and living on our own, so we had a lot to talk about and compare.

The weather wasn’t ideal, at times pouring rain, but we were mainly covered from the elements.

It was a lovely evening! I can’t believe how many DC-area bloggers there are.

Even though the game went into extra innings, we left after the ninth. Several of us metroed together and I forced them all to take awkward metro pictures. I’m still basically a tourist, after all.

Carly, Allison, Kelly and Amanda

I made a random guy take our picture on the train. I have no shame. Plus, we had to wait for 15 minutes so there was nothing else to do.

Besides chat, that is. Turns out Allison lives three metro stops from me in Arlington so we had a chance to get to know each other and I didn’t get lost on the metro. Score!

It was another night of not getting to bed until after midnight. Sleep? What’s that?

I actually got up and worked out this morning somehow. First real workout since Monday morning. I’ll take it.

I left the gym a bit early because traffic in Tyson’s was supposed to be really bad, but my commute today was only 20 minutes. It was a record! Surely that’s a good omen for the weekend, right?

Are you a baseball fan? Who do you root for?

  1. If you’re having trouble with the Metro, thank your lucky stars you don’t have to use the NY Subway system. And 90% of the time you’ll probably only use the Blue/Orange/and Red lines. Just learn the last stop in each direction of those lines and you’re good to go.

  2. I <3 baseball games. Like Hope, I'm a Phils fan. I have a bit of angst against the Nats. When I lived in NoVa we had no baseball team and it wasn't until I went to Drexel that the Nats existed. So I said F those guys and rooted for the Phils because PA was my home now. All of my friends from grade school that live there root for the Nats. They're not a terribly good team yet. ;)

  3. I’m so glad you had a fun night! I’m hitting up Mutts today for lunch w/ J.N. so I will have a Chicago Style Dog for ya :) Go Cubbies!

  4. I love sporting events, they’re always so fun and any place where beer + fries is an acceptable dinner sounds like heaven to me. Look at you, you’ve been in DC for like a month (if even) and already have more friends than me and I’ve lived here my whole life! haha

  5. It was so great to meet you last night! I’m going to snag your Metro pic (with credit of course) for my post. It came out so good considering the guy though we were total weirdos for wanting a picture on the train haha :)
I hope we get do another meet up soon! And if you ever want any company to try out all the yummy local restaurants I’m happy to join in! :)

  6. Your first major league game ever? That’s awesome! Glad it looked like a lot of fun!

I’m a St. Louis Cards girl… but will cheer on the Cubs when it’s necessary (ie this weekend). Which makes me quite rare- most STL fans are not empathetic towards the Cubs at ALL. I like being unique. :)

    • Yeah… we don’t have MLB in Oklahoma and my only option would have been the Texas Rangers and we all know how I feel about Texas teams..

I was kind of excited to see the Cardinals play actually. If I had to pick a team to like (other than the Nats now I guess), that would be it. Too bad my team beat your team ;)

  7. I dont know if we even have a baseball team here. Maybe we do and I just made myself sound like an idiot. Either way, its clearly not a big thing around here. Canadians are hockey people – even though Im not. I feel like I would like baseball better than other sports though. It just seems more fun.

  8. Hooray for baseball games! That’s such an awesome blogger meet up idea. I LOVE baseball and I’m a hardcore Cubs fan (no comments from the peanut gallery, I realize that it’s a shitty team to be devoted to and I’m well aware of our current record).

  9. Meh no hope in becoming a nats fan. If you’re gonna pick a new team, may as well be the best – so go with the Phils! : ) I promis I won’t call you a bandwagoner haha, I’m formally inviting you to join us! Also if you ever go to a Nats/Phils game down there, you’ll notice that 75% of the people in the stadium are wearing Phils gear – which is why we refer to the stadium as Citizen’s Bank Park – South.

  10. french fries & a beer- my kinda girl :) baseball games are really fun! sorry i havent commented in a while- i’ve still been reading (i guess creepin’) and i hope you’re doing well!
