Well, I’ve had a lovely morning so far.
The power went out in most of my building last night. The downside? I had no air conditioning. The upside? I had electricity, so I could at least watch TV.
I managed fairly well without the a/c. I just got naked and kept a fan near me at all times.
Unfortunately, the power in the building was not restored by the time I woke up this morning. So… that meant they only had one elevator running on a generator. The downside? Waiting 15 minutes for it to arrive in a non-air-conditioned hallway and then squeezing into a literal hot box with 30 strangers. The upside? All that sweating must have been good detoxification. Like a mini sauna.
After a very long elevator ride, where we stopped on each floor to pack more people into the sardine can, I arrived at my car… only to find I didn’t have my car key.
I had two options. Wait for the elevator again and repeat the process outlined above, or go for the stairs.
So… I climbed up 12 flights of stairs in a non air-conditioned stairwell in heels. The downside? I thought I was going to die. I hadn’t eaten or had any water yet. I was overheated, stressed because I was late for work and pissed off that I’d spent 20 minutes blow drying my hair only to have it stick to my head in a less attractive manner than if I had run a half marathon. The upside? I feel a lot better about my decision to skip the gym this morning. Also, I’m glad I only live 12 flights up. Any more would have been slightly unreasonable.
So, that’s how I kicked off this beautiful Friday. Aren’t things like that are supposed to happen on Mondays? I’m not impressed.
I know I shouldn’t complain though. It’s hot everywhere and I just had one bad incident. There are people that have to work in the heat every day, or worse, live outside in it. I know I’m lucky.
But I still felt compelled to share that lovely story.
Before all that, I had planned to do a whole post about how I actually cooked last night and it was awesome and prove to you that my asparagus really was purple, but that ship has sailed. So I’ll just show you the pictures and depart for now.

See? Purple. See? Dinner. Oooh. Aaaah.
Now I need to drink another gallon of water and complain about my morning to anyone who’ll listen.
Happy Friday!
LOL happy Friday to you, too! That blows about your building, hope they get it fixed ASAP. We have a wall unit on the first floor and a window unit in the bedroom, but we only turn that on an hour or so before bed to cool things down. The first floor unit comes on periodically only to help keep the kitties cool.
wow, you live on the 12th floor?? I would hate to go grocery shopping!! And that doesn’t sound fun in the morning, I would probably be pretty pissed off too! I hope the rest of your day goes better and that you have air when you get home tonight!
Arghhh.. its been way too hot lately and way too hot to have your a/c go out! I hope it gets fixed soon!

eh, i’d just count it as my workout for the day and be done! Happy Friday
Hope things get better as it goes!
Ugh, that sounds awful. But yeah, that totally counts as your workout, just like walking around outside yesterday counted as mine.
That sounds horrifying. Especially before work. After work would have been slightly more tolerable.
Ummm . . . and its not hot everywhere. Its cold here. Like, Im wearing jeans and a long sleeve shirt. Yah. Its July.
Really? That’s crazy!
Not only was that a workout but since you did it in heels, it’s a super SEXY workout! Like those slutty chair-dance infomercials I always see. You totally did that this morning you vixen. Hope your AC is fixed soon!
It’s true- your workouts got snuck in and you didn’t even know it! lol
I’ve complained to every other person here. And I’ll probably continue to do so. Because it’s rainy and humid and I’m in a whiny mood. And I do what I want.
Eeek! Its been a Monday of a Friday in these parts, too.
Ugh, that happened to me once when I lived on the 16th floor of a highrise- I opted for the stairs on my way home and was SO sweaty. I think stairwells get hotter than anywhere else in the building, am I right? Hope your day turns around- at least it’s Friday!
Stairs are an excellent workout! Sorry to hear that you had to climb them without AC though! I hope it’s back on by the time you get home tonight.
Whoa. That’s a lot of stairs. I’m too lazy for that nonsense. Your dinner looked good though!
I keep waiting for the power to go out here. It always happens during the hottest week of the summer. Fingers crossed it can hold out like, one more day! Nice work out, though : )
Your calves must be feeling those stairs today!!
Hope your Saturday is going well
