Poor Texas

Dear Texas,

Sorry for ya.

I did and saw a lot of things this past weekend, but none are more important than the fact that Oklahoma spilled burnt orange blood all over the Cotton Bowl Saturday afternoon.

It was beautiful.

I’m of the firm belief that no one win is ever better than a National Title, but since Bob Stoops doesn’t seem to be about winning championships, you have to take what you can get.

We beat them so badly that they dropped off the rankings completely, when they had previously been holding the #15 slot. (Okay, I lied, just saw the BCS rankings were out and they’re ranked 25 – but still.)

Heh.

It was nothing short of magical.

We have a tough season ahead of of us, still facing Notre Dame, WVU and TCU – all ranked teams while managing not to shoot ourselves in the foot during other “easier” games – something we’re very well known for doing.

I contend that the Big XII is a tougher conference than the SEC this year. Let’s see the old Crimson Tide stay undefeated after having to play Kansas State, West Virginia and Oklahoma. I don’t know that they could do it.

The Big Ten is practically irrelevant right now and the Pac 10 can suck it.

So yeah, I’m not sure where I was going with that other than BOOMER SOONER.

I’m not even going to feed into the talk about us being “back in the conversation” or discuss people’s ill-placed hatred in Landry Jones (let’s remember how our quarterbacks are chosen, people).

I’m just going to enjoy the look on Mackie’s face a little while longer.

Even on a morning where I realized I lost my (third) metro card and my briefcase broke in the middle of my speed walk to work – my joy will not be stolen from me.

Even though the Nats totally blew a 6-0 lead to lose their first showing in the playoffs since the 30s – my mood will not be broken.

Did I mention Boomer Sooner?

Oh and hey, good on the Redskins too.

  1. I can’t support the Redskins, that’s for sure, but congrats to the Sooners. I don’t even want to talk about college football this year. My team is pitiful. We just got a new AD, though, so HOPEFULLY next season will turn around.

  2. You’re really being hard on a Coach that got you a national championship and took you to another title game. Also, WVU got stomped by Texas Tech, Kansas State always chokes, and Alabama would beat Oklahoma. SEC is 1/2 in the BCS standings as well. As for the Big Ten, we’ll never know how good they are this year since my favorite team, THE Ohio State University, is ineligible for a bowl game. I wouldn’t want to play them next year if I were Oklahoma though, when Braxton Miller wins the Heisman and we get the ban lifted.

    • One championship in 13 years, and we went to two (LSU and USC) other title games and got murdered. Not good enough, not for what he gets paid. No one agrees with me on that though.

OSU being ineligible is the reason I say the Big Ten is irrelevant. Although I still think they’re ranked too high. They have no defense and really haven’t played anyone yet. With the way that the conferences have changed, I’d say they’re one of the weakest conferences now. Michigan is sub-par this year and Nebraska and Wisconsin aren’t good either. OSU is the only decent team, and they’re still not up to their usual level of play. And that is Tom’s team, he went to Ohio State, so I have nothing against them. I do think Braxton Miller is going to be a star.

WVU did get killed by Texas Tech, but they’re a sleeper team and they were motivated by the fact the we killed them the week before.

The SEC just pisses me off. Yes, it’s a good conference. Yes, Alabama and Florida (and LSU) are consistently good teams, but they can all kiss my ass. Do I really think the Big XII is better as a whole? No, but I think we are the closest out there. Plus, I just really hate those teams (and USC) – even more than I hate Texas. Not all sports arguments have to be rational, ha ha.

  3. I can never tell if Southerners are talking about South Carolina or Southern Cal when they say USC. And OSU is Ohio State, none of this Oklahoma State bullshit.

    • USC is always Southern Cal to me. Top hated team of all time. They are the Dallas Cowboys of college football.

Back home, OSU meant Oklahoma State because that’s the only place where anyone cares about Oklahoma State. Now that I’m out here, I use it to refer to Ohio State, since that is Tom’s team and it comes up a lot. I like Ohio State. I used OSU because you had mentioned Ohio State in your comment and figured you’d follow.
