I’m a Spaz

Good morning people! How are you feeling this fine day? We are supposed to have a high of 82 degrees today. When did summer hit the OKC?? No complaints here though, bring on the heat!

Yesterday evening was quite strange… I’m already starting to get kind of frazzled with my busier schedule. During college, when my head was constantly wrapped in about a thousand things at once, I was a very forgetful and often spastic soul. I feel that lovely version of myself starting to return. Joy…

Example? Driving off from the gas station with the hose still inserted into my car. Yes, that happened. No damage was done to either gas pump or car, but I still felt quite moronic. However, I’m actually really impressed with myself that that was the first time it had happened. If you know me very well, you know that things like that are not unusual occurences. (Read: getting pulled over for driving too slowly, and getting stuck on a curb in my car, among many other things.)

When I’m focused on too many things at once, I tend to do silly things. I guess I just have to accept it, and hope that the “things” aren’t too tragic or humiliating.

While I was at said gas station, I picked up a protein bar. This is not in accordance with Crap Free Week, but I was starving (hadn’t eaten anything since 2 p.m. and it was 7:30) and figured I needed to eat something before I attempted to run 6.5 miles.

Even though it wasn’t Crap Free, this bar was pretty tasty.

My run was pretty disappointing though. I kind of knew it would be going in. I tried to tell myself that failure wasn’t an option, but there were just too many things working against me.

  • My IT bands were on fire for some reason.
  • I abhor running on the treadmill.
  • The longest I’ve ever run in my life was 5 miles, and that was outside.
  • My knee was in pain. At first it was only uncomfortable, but by mile 2.5 it was a shooting pain.

So… I decided not to push it and injure myself, and only ended up running 3 miles. I only have one and a half weeks before my 10K and I really want to be in good shape for that. And honestly, I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to run farther than 3 miles on a treadmill – it’s just too monotonous for me.

Instead, I’m going to run it outside today since I don’t work at my part-time job. I think I’ll have much more success that way.

After finishing up the shortened run, I dashed home to eat some real food. All I wanted was a fresh, colorful salad.

So delicious! I don’t know why I don’t make salads more often. There was a lot going on in there!

  • Arugula
  • Baby romaine
  • Yellow grape ‘maters
  • Red grape ‘maters
  • One whole avocado
  • Four sliced strawberries
  • Salad dressing made of dollop of 0% Oikos and Frank’s hot sauce

Impeccable. Some of the ingredients were kind of random, but it totally worked. And all the colors made me happy.

After eating that it was already time for bed. The days just go by so quickly! I need to make a mental note to stop and savor the day more. It’s almost April! Crazy.

Hmmm…. I was planning to do a review of my New Balance shoes I received from Fitbloggin, but this post seems to be long enough alread so I’ll save that for another day.

I actually have several reviews I plan to do on a few different kinds of workout (mainly running) gear, since I’m working so closely with it right now. So I thought I’d ask… is that something you guys are at all interested in? Or would you rather I just stick to random musings about gas pumps? It’s in your hands my friends!

Wine isn’t crap

Man… that whole rest and relaxation thing did not exactly happen this weekend. Yesterday was  every bit as busy as my weekdays were this week! But it’s okay. It’s good to be busy and have lots going on. Otherwise I’d be complaining about being bored.

My morning started bright and early for a Saturday. I got up around 7:30 to get ready for work. Breakfast was a yogurt bowl.

Greek yogurt, banana, almond butter

I had 3/4 cup Greek yogurt, a banana and tablespoon of almond butter. Yesterday was Day 1 of my Crap Free Week, and this meal was right in line with my goals for the week.

I took a Green Monster to sip on during my six hour shift at the part-time job.

Green Monster

Work was so great again yesterday. We weren’t officially open, but we let a local running club come in to pick up some race packets for a marathon they’re traveling to tomorrow. We got to talk with a lot of really seasoned runners, and help them through our gait analysis system. It was awesome!

Even more awesome was that I got to meet a fellow Oklahoma bloggista, Justine. She was the sweetest thing ever and she was adorable. I’m so happy she came by! I got to help her with the gait analysis and we talked about running shoes, green monsters, Whole Foods and a dozen other things. It was so fun.

After work was over I was starving, so I ran home and had a quick lunch.

Steamed sweet potato and cottage cheese topped with one whole egg and one egg white, oh and of course some Frank’s hot sauce. You can’t take away my condiments! Kind of random, but I had to throw something together quickly so I could get to the gym in time to get a run in. I wanted to run outside, but it was raining and the wind was blowing like crazy and I didn’t want to get sick all over again.

I hadn’t ran since my 8K two weeks ago, so I was worried it wasn’t going to go well. I just stuck to my training plan (instead of trying to make up missed runs), which called for me to walk 1 mile, run 3 miles and walk another mile. The running portion went extremely well! I didn’t feel like I’d lost any endurance at all, which was a huge relief. I’m supposed to do 6.5 miles tomorrow, which is daunting, but I think it’s going to go great!

After the gym I zipped by the grocery store because I needed to stock up for Crap Free Week. Look how veggie-ful my fridge is.

Feels so good to see all that freshness in there.

I was supposed to go home and see my Mom tonight, but she decided to come up to the city since I was so busy. My brother and SIL came over and we went to a nearby Mediterranean restaurant. I had a salad and some fresh hummus with pita. No pictures because their mood lighting was pretty much pitch dark with candles. I hate places like that. The food was really good though!

Then, even though I wanted to collapse in a heap, I let my brother and SIL talk me into going out for a glass of wine. They claimed that I’ve been too busy lately and needed to make time for them. I don’t consider wine to by crap by the way, so it’s allowed this week :)

I got to bed later than I would have liked and woke up freakishly early this morning. I can’t decide if I want to get up now and be productive. Or try to take a nap so I can have energy for the week to come. Decisions, decisions.

I hope your weekends have been going well so far. Enjoy the rest of it!

Usual Ramblings

Thank you guys so, so much for your response to my post this morning. You are all amazing! Each and every comment made my day. Seriously, you have no idea.

Since I waxed on all philosophical like this morning, I left out the usual ramblings that I usually cover. Like the fact that I ate this snack yesterday that will probably gross 50% of you out.

Breakstone's Cottage Cheese with Mighty Maple Peanut Butter

Yes, that’s cottage cheese and peanut butter. And yes, it was good. If you’re into that sort of thing. Which I am.

After that I left work and went on the date, which was short so it went fairly well ;) In all honesty, this guy is kind of perfect on paper. He’s the type of guy I’ve never dated in the past, and the type of guy I probably should date. But I’m not sure if there’s any zsa zsa zu (Sex and the City anyone?). We’ll see though. We’re going to a basketball game on Sunday.

Work was awesome again. We got to test out the gait analysis center on each other, and I found out that I’ve been running in the wrong type of shoe. Good to know!

This morning I had a green monster, and later on I enjoyed an Asiago Cheese bagel.

Yummy. Lunch today was at a meeting. Subway, carrots and fruit.

Perhaps you see my beverage lurking in the background? Yes, that would be a Diet Coke.

It is because of this that I’ve decided to begin a Crap Free Week, effective tomorrow. I’m not going to be super strict about it but I’m not going to consume artificial sugar, canned or overly processed food and I’m going to really try to avoid added sugars. I need to get out of the habit of letting myself make these bad choices. Not that I’ve been eating terribly, but it definitely hasn’t been quite as healthy as I prefer to eat.

Oh, did you know that today was National Spinach Day? Of course I celebrated.

Green Monster - National Spinach Day

It was so pretty outside! I wish I could have spent more time out there. I get to tomorrow though. I drank that at the part-time job. A lot of product was out tonight. There’s already so much stuff I want. I’m going to have to control myself or else I’m not going to make any money, haha.

When I got home I had some leftover beet salad from my dinner date last night.

A beet, goat cheese and pistachio salad to be exact. Sounds delicious, right? My date, we’ll call him B, was absolutely grossed out that I ordered this, which I thought was hilarious. He’s pretty much a meet and potatoes kind of guy. Not a perfect match food wise… I made sure to point that out. Like fifty times.

The beet salad was absolutely delicious, but I was still hungry so I had Amy’s Tomato Bisque.

It was good to get it out of the pantry, since it’s not allowed during crap free week :) It’s seriously one of my favorite canned soups though!

Alright, I am about to head to bed. I get to sleep in until the ripe hour of 7:30, and if I got to bed by 11:30 that means I get a whole 8 hours of sleep. Yay!

Do you think it’s important to have similar food tastes as your significant other?
