All in the name of a good party

Good morning all! I hope you had lovely weekends. Mine was great. The barbecue went well. I ended up going out with work friends for a going away on Friday night, so we were in a bit of a rush getting ready on Saturday but it all came together.

As long as you have ample drink – you can’t go wrong. Am I right?

The cups are hiding my drink of choice for the evening – Jose Cuervo Light Margarita – aka the poor gal’s SkinnyGirl.

Delicious. There was also food, of course. We had enough chips to feed an army. No idea why we thought we needed so many.

There was also potato salad and a Greek pasta salad I made, which was a huge hit.

I also made taco dip, at Kace’s suggestion, and people loved it. So good.

It was hot and I was worn out from all the preparation, but I put on my hostess face and made the best of it.

At least I didn’t have to slave over the hot grill. That was left to the men. I didn’t end up eating any of the meat, but we had hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken hot dogs, chicken sausages and tandoori chicken. Oh, and grilled corn.

After everyone finished eating (we had way too much food), we just hung out, listened to music/danced and met new friends.

The night ended with a swim in the pool, with our clothes on. Why no one wore bathing suits in still a mystery…

I stayed up way too late and didn’t get home until Sunday morning. Therefore, yesterday was spent either on the couch or in bed. I never even changed out of my pajamas.

Oh well, all in the name of a good party!

What’s your favorite cookout food? I usually just end up picking at the sides all night.

Taco Night

As much as I suck at planning events, I still love trying to plan them and coming up with new fun things to do. I also prefer for these things to be planned in advance, because I’m a crazy psycho scheduler (different from planning, because it only requires me to organize myself) and I like to get my social ducks in a row.

This is the reason I’m so excited for the monthly DC blogger/blog reader/Twitter meet-ups. Every third Wednesday. Mark your calendars.

In a similar manner, another group of friends and I have recently decided to have monthly get-togethers of our own. It all started with Taco Night.

I have a funny story about tacos, but I’m actually planning to start a new story-telling thing next week, so I’ll save it. Plus, it’s kind of gross and wouldn’t fit in here.

Anyways, my friend Unmani hosted taco night and it was awesome. I’d had a terrible day, so I was very happy for friends, grub and Corona.

Corona Light, because I’m ballooning at a pretty steady pace these days. I arrived early and assisted with the meat preparation. Unmani had never cooked with beef before, so I stepped up to do the dirty work.

She added all the spices, and it turned out great. Everyone chipped in to help, so dinner was ready in no time.

I made a giant taco salad instead of using any shells. I like to think this allowed for more cheese and sour cream.

The food was great, but it was also fun just to hang out. There were even kids there, and I kind of liked them. This is a big deal folks.

Kids that plank are pretty cool. The boy was hilarious and a total flirt, and the baby was adorable. I kept my distance for the most part, but maybe this is the start of a less child-fearing life.

What do you like on your tacos/taco salad? I don’t think there’s anything I don’t like. Beans, salsa, sour cream, guac, cheese, tomatoes, olives, peppers… you name it, I’ll put it on!
