This past weekend was a far busier one than I am used to. It started out Friday night with a 6-miler with Lisa, continued on with an early Saturday morning Body Pump class and then 5 hours of work at the part-timer.
Then, the highlight, a fun dinner with my friend Victoria who was visiting me from Dallas.
We went out for Peruvian food, together for the first time, at Inca Trail in Oklahoma City.
(It was ultra shadowy in there, so excuse the random hand shadows in all the pictures.)
They were still working on getting their liquor license, but since it was a girl’s night, wine was definitely necessary. So we brought our own!
This cab from Washington State is actually one of the best reds I’ve had in a long time. And I’m pretty sure it was about $12 for the bottle. I think I like BYOW.
It was so good, in fact, that I had to text the SIL to brag, since she’s usually the one telling me about good wines.
For an appetizer, Victoria ordered the Palta Relleno, which was a stuffed avocado.
To be honest, the description of it had thoroughly freaked me out, but when it arrived I realized it was just an avocado stuffed with chicken salad.
Pretty good, but not my favorite thing ever.
After a very long wait (I wouldn’t recommend going on a Saturday night unless you weren’t very hungry – they were very busy) our entrees arrived.
I ordered the Churrasco a la Pobre. (Say hello to my pinkie finger!)
I was at a complete loss as to what to order, so I had the waitress choose for me. She chose this dish which was a steak with two fried eggs, rice and yucca. It didn’t really knock my socks off. The steak was very tough and something about the flavors didn’t really settle well with me.
Victoria, however, loved her dish, which was some sort of sea bass. She kept making “yuuumm” noises the whole time she was eating. I was kind of jealous.
Even though my first Peruvian food experience didn’t wow me, I still had a lot of fun and love trying new cuisines. I would definitely go back and try it again, ordering something else.
Thanks Victoria for going with me and for coming to visit!
Have you ever had Peruvian food? Did you like it?
